WHAT IS SLAA?

Sacramento area Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) is a Twelve Step - Twelve Tradition oriented fellowship based on the model pioneered by Alcoholics Anonymous.

One of the resources we draw on is our willingness to stop acting out in our own personal bottom line addictive behavior on a daily basis. In addition, members reach out to others in the fellowship, work with a sponsor, perform service within SLAA, and practice the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of SLAA.

We seek a relationship with a Higher Power to counter the destructive consequences of one or more addictive behaviors related to sex addiction, love addiction, dependency on romantic attachments, emotional dependency, and/or sexual, social and emotional anorexia.

We find a common denominator in our obsessive, compulsive patterns which renders any personal differences of sexual or gender orientation irrelevant.

WHAT IS THE SACRAMENTO AREA INTERGROUP?

(Official name: AUGUSTINE FELLOWSHIP SEX AND LOVE ADDICTS ANONYMOUS SACRAMENTO INTERGROUP) Revised 03/2003

Intergroup is a group of elected representatives from local SLAA meetings who gather together once a month to share their experience, strength and hope. Intergroup provides a forum for communication between local groups. Furthermore, it provides a service center and administrative support for all local groups. The mission of Intergroup is to carry the message of SLAA to the addict who still suffers.

WHO SERVES IN INTERGROUP?

All volunteers who serve in Intergroup come from local groups. In addition to the individual group representatives, there are seven elected officers (Chairperson, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Literature Person, Voicemail Manager, Webmaster) and as needed; committee chairpersons. (See Service Page for more information.)

Each of the SLAA groups elects someone to represent them at Intergroup meetings. All Intergroup Representatives must have a minimum of six months participation in the SLAA  program and three months of self-defined sobriety/recovery.

WHO MAY ATTEND INTERGROUP MEETINGS?

Intergroup meetings are open to any SLAA member. We strongly encourage any interested SLAA members to attend any Intergroup meeting and/or to perform service for a committee. See the home page for the time and address of Intergroup meetings.

WHAT DOES AN INTERGROUP REPRESENTATIVE DO?

An Intergroup representative acts to represent the interests of a local group, and brings Intergroup information back to the local group. An Intergroup representative attends the monthly Intergroup meetings. The representative brings their group's conscience and represents the group in matters affecting them and SLAA.

Local Intergroup Representatives carry the 7th Tradition money to support Intergroup activities. The Representative fills book, chip and pamphlet orders and brings them back to the local group. Representatives may participate in the planning of Intergroup events by serving on a committee or in another capacity.

Serving as an Intergroup Representative is a great way to give service to SLAA and to benefit your own recovery. Check the Service page to see if there is a Representative in your local group.

WHAT KIND OF THINGS DOES INTERGROUP DO?

Intergroup  provides meeting schedules on this webpage and via a free brochure available at any local meeting. Intergroup maintains a phone line with voicemail for meeting information as well as providing call backs for those in need.

Intergroup responds to SLAA related email and faxes sent to website. Intergroup facilitates the bulk literature and chip ordering for all local groups. Intergroup stocks and then distributes program brochures, literature and chips to local groups. (This means that local groups do not have to order and wait for weeks for materials to arrive).

Intergroup assists with the starting of new groups and meeting locations. Intergroup plans and presents recovery conferences and workshops. Intergroup plans and organizes program-supported social events for members. (See Volunteer page for more details or to get involved.)

Intergroup works with Fellowship-Wide Services (FWS), the national SLAA parent organization, as well as individual groups to resolve issues and reach out to those in need in keeping with the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions of SLAA.

YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS AT WORK!

The activities and functions of Intergroup are supported by 7th Tradition donations from all local groups and individuals. Intergroup cannot function without these donations.

Regular monthly Intergroup expenses may include such things as newspaper advertising, phone and voicemail costs, literature, brochures, maintaining a checking account, printing/photocopying costs, meeting room rental as well as webpage maintenance. Additional expenses, such as those incurred by workshops, conferences or contributions to FWS, are paid on an on-going, as needed basis. To find out more, attend an Intergroup meeting or ask your local Intergroup Representative.
